FACULTY OF FINE ARTS AND DESIGN
Department of Textile and Fashion DesignVision: The Department of Textile and Fashion Design's vision is to train designers who holistically address the historical depth and current developments regarding clothing as an object that holds meaning in the context of human physical, social, and psychological existence, and who blend this knowledge with artistic and technical competence. In today's rapidly evolving fashion world, one of our primary priorities is to train creative individuals who strike a balance between aesthetics and functionality, have developed their unique design language, and can produce original and innovative collections that inform contemporary design and the fashion industry. Our department approaches textile and fashion design not only as a product development process, but also as a cultural, artistic, and intellectual form of expression. In line with the vision of a sustainable life, we adopt a responsible, ethical, and transformational design approach that is sensitive to the social and ecological crises facing the fashion sector. We value cyclical, slow, and local resource-conscious fashion approaches. In this direction, our vision is to focus on the interaction between contemporary art, creative fields, and fashion through an interdisciplinary approach; to internalize diverse ways of thinking, designing, and implementing; and to be a department that trains creative and transformation-oriented designers who stay current with trends. A holistic education model that also provides competence in the fields of critical thinking, conceptual research, fashion theory, fashion criticism, and fashion communication is adopted. It aims to bring young designers to the sector who not only follow current trends and technology in the global fashion world, but also can present new trends with original perspectives; and who have the vision to create fashion brands of the future in different areas of use and markets (such as women's, men's, children's clothing; denim, underwear, leather, and knitwear).
Mission: As the Department of Textile and Fashion Design, in line with the vision stated above, we continuously develop our student-oriented education program by taking into account the current dynamics and technological developments in the fashion and textile sector. It encourages students to produce original designs within the scope of individual and team work, bringing them together with the industry through internship opportunities and university-industry collaborations. It supports students' participation in national and international fairs, competitions, seminars, and exhibitions, ensuring they gain valuable experience. By integrating conceptual and application-oriented course content simultaneously, we transform learning, research, and critical thinking into creative projects that foster innovation. We analyze the needs of the local and global fashion industry and offer innovative solutions to these needs by addressing design in sociological, cultural, economic, and ecological dimensions. In practice, we provide a pioneering and contemporary education model by integrating the knowledge of the past and traditional craft culture with the opportunities offered by the digital world, computer-based design, and communication tools.
