Artwork to promote the Turkish coffee culture worldwide

10 artworks of Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır from Izmir University of Economics (IUE), in which she transferred coffee cup figures on fabric using all the intricacies of fiber art, were accepted to the international biennial in China. Prof. Dr. Adanır is the only person selected from Turkey to the "From Lausanne to Beijing" International Fiber Art Biennale in which artists from 5 continents participated and only 300 works, among thousands of applications, earned the right to be displayed.
Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Textile and Fashion Design, prepared her artwork inspired by the changes in social life due to the pandemic. Gathering with friends who have not been able to meet face to face for a long time on a digital platform, Prof. Dr. Adanır asked her friends to take photos while drinking coffee and send these images to her.
OPEN UNTIL 16 FEBRUARY
Transferring the photographs of the coffee cup and a part of the face onto the fabric with the screen-printing technique and creating a separate story for each, Prof. Dr. Adanır submitted her unique art to the jury of the biennial in China. The jury, evaluating thousands of artworks from different countries, decided to include Prof. Dr. Adanır’s collection called “Zor Günlerde Rahatlatıcı Kehanetler” (Comforting Prophecies in Hard Days) at the 11th biennial this year. The biennial, which is open until February 16, can be visited at https://lbfiberart.ad.tsinghua.edu.cn. address.
I ADDED MOTIFS LIKE STARFISH, SAIL
Stating that representing Turkey in the biennial makes her very proud, Prof. Dr. Adanır said, “Coffee has a very special place in Turkish culture. I reflected the coffee culture and related images in my artwork. I added energizing motifs such as starfish, fish, and sail on the images my friends sent me. As a result of all these, pleasant works came out. The biennial is a highly respected organization around the world where the jury evaluates the works comprehensively. I attended the biennial also in 2018. However, I learned that I was the only one from our country this year and I am happy to take part in the biennial.”
