      Course Objectives The purpose of this course is to explore early origins of cosmetics starting with prehistory and find out how the cosmetic fashions developed within different cultures through ages. And to identify the main trends, cultural movements and innovations in cosmetics and perfumes from a historical perspective. Another aim of the course is to explore the relationship between cosmetic industry and design world.
      Learning Outcomes

      The students who succeeded in this course;

      • Will be able to examine the use of cosmetics from early civilizations to the beginning of 20th century.
      • Will be able to find out how the practices of makeup, hairdressing and body care developed over centuries.
      • Will be able to evaluate the influences of historical, cultural and social variables on makeup, hairdressing and body care practices.
      • Will be able to explore the influences of the fashion design and entertainment industries on makeup and hairdressing practices as well as cosmetic product innovation and commercialization.
      • Will be able to collect information on the historical and traditional use and modernization of cosmetics in our culture.
      Course Description The cultural history of cosmetics from de Prehistory to the beginning of the 20th century.
